Measuring for Hat Size

Measuring for hat size is very easy to do.

Your hat size is the measurement, in inches, of the place where your hat rests on your head.

Tip: You may at this point want to run and stand in front of a mirror. Or better yet, get someone to assist you for an accurate measurement.

To measure for hat size, simply take a cloth tape measure and begin at the center of your forehead just above your eyes. Stretch the tape across the top of your first ear, around the back/base of your head. Keep the tape taut yet comfortable as you measure across your second ear and back to the center of your forehead. Most women measure anywhere from 21-25 inches.

How to measure for hat size

Tip: The goal is a “relaxed” measurement so that the hat will fit you comfortably. In other words, don’t pull the tape too tight because you need your hat to feel comfortable (vs. too tight) when you wear it.

Tip: If you don’t have a cloth measuring tape, take a piece of string and measure in the same way as described above. Then simply lay this string measurement against a hard ruler to determine your hat size in inches.
