The Tea Dyed Dahlia hat by MAGGIE MAE DESIGNS® is a bold design created in a rich champagne dupioni silk. Fascinated with the ancient process of tea dying, Sally used black tea to dye silk organza and dupioni silk for the dahlia flower portion of the hat.
The petals of a large dahlia flower were tea-dyed, and the center of the flower was filled with swirling chocolate and mocha silk layers. Another layer of tea-dyed silk organza was fashioned into a ruffled edge for the rose. It looks good enough to eat!
Several layers of stylized, pointed petals were fashioned out of tea-dyed dupioni silk to frame the rose center. Spilling over the brim edge, they add an air of mystery. A twinkling “teardrop” in soft tea-colored glass beads provides a bit of unexpected sparkle at a corner of the rose.
Sally created a bold medley of delicate mocha silk organza “feathers” to surround the floral trim. This feather spray sweeps all the way to the back of the hat for a truly stunning, dramatic effect!
A sash in chocolate dupioni silk lined with champagne silk surrounds the crown, tying all of the trim elements together.
Finally, a freeform jeweled “bow” with chocolate and tea-colored glass bead loops adorns the back seam of this hat.
